Lets practice safe computing in Ragnarok!We are nearing the end of the year and we would like everyone to take a look at their RO account(s) and update the PWs by logging in to the website and using the myinfo button to make a new PW. We will be implementing a system in the near future that will push you to make a new PW every few months to make sure you are at least abiding by that level of security protocol. Please update the Password by January 12, so you don't have to find out when the Game says "change your password now". While updating the password please consider checking the email account status for the RO account. Do you have access to or still remember the email address? If not you are missing one of the most important security tool available to you on the web, that of email verification. If you need to update the email address the GM team will happily assist you. It will take a bit of information from you to get the email updated; but if you are the proper user of the account the email update is very possible to do. General Security guidelines:
Make sure the account email is something only you have access to, and plan to have long term access to.
Preferrably only use a registration email address for registering for important things like bills, rather than a "spam catching email".
Also the fewer people that know your email the better.
Passwords should contain uppper and lowercase, numbers and symbols in them
6-13 characters long should be your goal for a password. If you make a password that is truly random it is excrutiatingly difficult to guess and if you change the password regularly you are taking appropriate password protective measures.
If no one knows your account information the liklihood of a random person logging in drops to near 0.
Use antivirus and spyware eliminating software regularly, and think about the riskiness of the sites you visit on the web.
Play from secure systems/locations. Playing on a lan cafe PC is a risk as you do not have control over the network or what others may have put on that PC; at a friends house you are safer (assuming the friend is trustworthy and computer savvy), but your home on your PC on a scanned and clean PC is the best security for normal usage.
We do appreciate the many thousands of players that have changed their Passwords today when we made the in-game announcement (I apologize for the feeling of intense urgency that was felt in the announcement, upon re-reading it I can see why the public reaction was what it was). We also like that so many have written in requesting email changes to get themselves fully resecured. We are processing them now, and hope to have the ones received on the 17th done by the end of the 18th. For now you all have time to make your PW changes yourselves with no interuption to your game play. Thank you for your support and Happy Holidays!
